Three Easy Steps to a Professional Tutu
The basics of the site are back in place under the menu topic, “How to Make a Tutu.” We hope to have a much improved site soon. Thank you for your support and patience. Link from the drop down menu to find the answers to these questions, and more!
1. How Much Fabric? What notions do I need?
2. How do I make a professional bodice?
3. The frills! How do I make the perfect frills?
We provide the details and help you distinguish between a truly beautiful tutu and a garish look. We help you fit the perfect bodice and distinguish between the first time inexpensive tutu construction design and the exceptionally expensive design!
This depends on the height of your dancer. Nothing makes a tutu look more unprofessional than an overly wide and sagging frill.
Our section on measuring your dancer explains this in detail. With lycra fabrics you always have ‘give.’ But if you are using silks for a performance tutu measurements matter!
Bodice patterns are expensive and they still must be fitted. Try our duck tape bodice pattern and get a perfect fit for less than the cost of a pattern.
It’s all about the frills! To hoop or not to hoop?!? How to make them stand up, how to revive sagging frills, how to embellish. It’s all here.
The single most important point to remember when embellishing is weight. Do NOT weigh your tutu down. Paula Drake, Master of Embellishment, shares her tried and true tips.
